Like the fact that you would name your band The Civil Wars is pretty damning evidence that this whole post-racial notion of “all music belongs to everyone all music is folk music” because duh it is so fucking racialized and black art forms are denigrated as simply “folk” and “craft” until they’re appropriated by white artists and the racialized “folkiness” becomes a marker of AUTHENTICITY since it refers to a romanticized idea of black rural American life without having to you know like actually talk about racism
Realized I’m becoming increasingly uncomfortable with white people playing blues music to the extent that I kind of cringe a little when I see it and feel like Ahhhhhhhhhhhh plz just look at the context
Like Jesus Christ this band of two white people from CALIFORNIA called THE CIVIL WARS singing “CAN’T NO PREACHER MAN SAVE MY SOUL”
